Sibling Link Joins Stoneham Bakehouse’s Baking & Bereavement

Sibling LInk are very excited to announce a new venture with Stoneham Bakehouse in Hove – Baking and Bereavement – a project to help those who have been bereaved and connect with others in the same boat.

BAKING & BEREAVEMENT is a new initiative by Stoneham Bakehouse CIC, and funded by Sussex Community Foundation. In the first two sessions the project will be offering those bereaved by suicide the opportunity to learn a new skill in baking; whilst sharing with others who are living with, and totally understand this brutal kind of grief. 

Feeling understood and talking about common experiences can help to lessen feelings of stigma and isolation and many other complicated emotions experienced by those bereaved by suicide.  

Both Stoneham Bakehouse and Sibling Link founders will be on hand to guide and facilitate those who attend. 

STONEHAM BAKEHOUSE CIC is a community supported bakery in the Poets Corner area of Hove. They nourish the community and themselves through baking bread. The volunteer bakers come together every week to enjoy the process of bread making, share stories, have fun and feel connected with their community. As a not-for-profit community business Stoneham  Bakehouse use money made from their bread sales and bread making courses to fund community projects, allowing more people to share in the happiness of dough-therapy and support their wellbeing. 

Stoneham Bakehouse founder Simon Cobb came to baking through his own mental health difficulties; finding that the therapeutic nature of breadmaking helped him to begin to overcome his anxiety and depression. Seeking to share this with others, and be able to bake more, Stoneham Bakehouse was born.
