Carers Rights Day 2019
You might not think of yourself as a carer but 1 in 8 of us are! 1.3 million people nationally, provide over 50 hours of care per week which goes towards saving the economy an average of £132 billion per year…. In Brighton and Hove alone, there are over 20,000 unregistered carers – the largest amount outside London – are you one of them?
Next Thursday 21st November, the Carers Hub is putting on an event to celebrate Carer’s Rights Day. If you’re caring for your family or friend, you should head on over and get the chance to meet those in the same boat as you.
Carers Hub is a partnership of three local charities and local authority assessment staff, who have joined together to create a focal point for unpaid carers, to get information and support they need. The partnership comprises The Carers Centre for Brighton and Hove, Brighton and Hove Crossroads Care, Brighton and Hove Alzheimer’s Society and Brighton and Hove City Council.
Many of our city’s local organisations will be there to offer their support – and it’s all for YOU, the carer of someone in your life. Find out about the benefits of registering and amongst others you will find, Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Young Carers Project, Mind in Brighton and Hove, and carer experts.
At 3pm Dr Philp Rankin will be leading a workshop to inform carers about the NHS Long Term Plan and its implementation locally. He is working with health and social care, and keen to hear carers’ experiences. He is keen to link up the work of the NHS, support groups and the work in A&E. “My job is to bring the good stuff together, particularly in respect of prevention”.
The event is at The Brighthelm Centre, BN1 1YD and you’ll be warmly welcomed between 2pm and 4.30pm.
We will also be there, should you want to find out more about our peer support meeting for those worried about a sibling with mental ill health, and our bereaved by suicide walk & talk group may be something that would be useful to you or someone else you know.
For more information and to book a place on the workshop please call the Carers Hub on 01273 977000
For anyone outside Brighton and Hove, Carers UK have all the information you’ll need for information in your area.
